Pre-conference Seminar: The Future of Utility Network Operations and Information Management

As one of our valued clients (optional), I’d like to invite you to the pre-conference seminar about “The Future of Utility Network Operations and Information Management” that Oracle Utilities and Capgemini are holding at Metering & Billing/Transmission & Distribution/SmartGrids Europe 2012 (8-11 October 2012, Amsterdam, The Netherlands).

As a sponsor of the event we would be delighted to welcome you at this seminar and offer you a pass that enables to access the preconference seminar as well as the full event exhibition. We feel this is an indispensable opportunity for you to discover in-depth insights and real case studies around two hot topics: self-sufficiency for electricity as well as smart analytics for grid operators.

Please find the registration form and detailed agenda below.

We are looking forward to meeting you at the pre-conference seminar!

AGENDA

Block 1 (13:00-15:00)
Speakers: Brad Williams VP Industry Strategy, Oracle Utilities – Arie Hobbel Senior Utilities Consultant, Capgemini – Brendan de Graaf CEO, TexelEnergie

The growth of decentralized energy resources along with the trend towards higher energy efficiency are major drivers in the energy transition. The energy transition changes the relationship between utilities and consumers, shifting from unaware consumers to consumers who are highly involved in the energy value chain as prosumers or participants in energy efficiency programs. In addition, we see the rise of (virtual) microgrids bringing together people who act as energy communities.

In this block we will discuss how communities can become self-sufficient for electricity, illustrated by 2 case studies:
• Cloud Power: balancing energy supply and demand within a community throughout the day
• TexelEnergie: collective energy company on the Dutch island of Texel and their ambition for sustainability
• The Microgrid project for Borrego Springs (California) and the role of Oracle Distributed Grid Management
• Open discussion

Block 2 (15:30-17:30)
Speakers: Rudy de Blok, Senior Utilities Consultant, Capgemini –  Tom Eyford, Principal Business Strategy Consultant, Oracle Utilities

Smart analytics for Grid operators – enabling Smart Grid control through real-time data analytics
Smart(er) grids have their foundation in correct, sufficient and real time grid information combined with the seamless integration of energy-, information-, operational- and communication technology enabling real time grid control. IT plays a major role in enforcing real time grid control by adding value to grid information through higher analyzing speed and smart(er) analytics. In this block we will present Capgemini’s point of view on real time data processing combined with Oracle’s solution map.

• Capgemini’s vision on Smart grid data analysis from a business perspective
• Duke Energy case study for network management & outage management enabled by Oracle Utilities
• Key operational trends changing the utility industry
• Model-based distributed intelligence to optimize the dynamic grid
• The need for “Overarching Authority” or “system-of-systems” approach in the modern control
• Enterprise life-cycle management approach to support the exponential growth of new smart field devices
• Open discussion
